Discover DalsvallenDalsvallen was founded about 180 years ago as a so-called vildmarksgård. Later, some foresters built some houses as a base after working in the forest. Even later, the houses were prepared for tourists and people who like to stay in this beautiful nature reserve.
Dalsvallen has 6 authentic cabins (stuga's), nicely divided and well spaced on the site. The cabins are different in size and layout so take a look and choose what suits you best. We also have the Kaffestugan for rent, a big central cabin for multifunctional use. The Kaffestugan has place for 50 people and can be used for meetings, conferences or workshops for example. Many guests, including fishermen and hunters in the spring and autumn, have been enjoying a stay at Dalsvallen for more than 20 years. In addition to fishing and hunting, you can enjoy nature by hiking, canoeing, swimming in a lake, going out with the mountain bike... Rather enjoy silence? There is a spacious fire pit and plenty of places to sit outside with a book or with nothing at all. With a little luck you will see a moose walking in front of your house. Reindeer regularly graze on the Dalsvallen site, especially in winter but sometimes also in summer.

The landscape and wildlife
The landscape with its mountain peaks worn by glaciers, of which forty are above 1000 meters, is also the highest area in Sweden. The tree line is at an altitude of about 750 meters and through the beautiful valleys flow - sometimes wild - rivers, streams and many large lakes have formed. The Rändåfallet and Mittåfallet waterfalls just beyond Långå are highly recommended.

In addition to the brown bear and herds of reindeer, you will also find moose, lynx, fox, deer, beaver, capercaillie and other fowl. If you're lucky, you can see the rare wolverine! We found tracks on our terrain. Large numbers of common fish species such as grayling, lake trout and bass can live in the clean waters.

Sonfjället National Park, home of the bear
Sonfjället National Park, or Sånfjällets Nationalpark, is one of the roughest national parks in the middle of Sweden. The park with an area of approximately 103 square kilometers, is located in the west of Sweden, in the heart of the Härjedalen region in the province of Jämtland. The largest part of Sonfjället National Park is formed by a huge mountain that you can see from everywhere in the wider area. The park is known for its lonely mountain and ... the bears! Hiking Within the national park there are plenty of marked summer and wintertrails, everything from short child-friendly trips to day-long trips along the mountaintop. You can also go on excellent trips spanning several days in the national park. Paths and trails usually are well-marked and easy to follow. Cairns or posts delineate the summer trails. Dalsvallen is a natural starting point for both shorter and longer trips on your own or with a guide. Nice to know: only from Dalsvallen you can start the winter trail. Looking for bears and beavers Traces of bears are everywhere. They might take the form of claw marks on trees, anthills that have been dug up, an old winter lair or scat full of berries. Catching sight of a bear is not so easy, but if you are in the right place at the right time, your patience can be rewarded and you still have a good chance of spotting a bear. The area around Dalsvallen and the region has the largest bear density in Sweden. At Dalsvallen they can help you with finding and booking a safari or another activity. |
Fäbod life
A curious goat insists on attention, and from a distance you can hear the mountain cows moo. At the Nyvallen fäbod, a group of simple dwellings where people go in the summer to tend cattle, you can learn about nature in the information cabin, take part in a guided tour (for a fee) or taste traditional fäbod food. A short hike that starts from Nyvallen can be just right if you don’t want to walk very far. Both young and old can read about nature here and look for animals in the forest. Another interesting national park is The Rogen Nature Reserve, as close to the untamed Swedish wilderness as it gets. Ancient pine forests, interspersed with blue lakes and giant stones haphazardly strewn about. Few people wander the wild realms of Rogen in south-west Härjedalen, bordering Norway. You can’t escape the feeling that this is the untouched wilderness. |

Every season its own beauty
Spring, summer, fall and winter each have their own unique personalities.
Although relatively few people live here, Norrland has the climate many people falsely associate with all of Sweden. Winters here are long, cold and dry, with sub-zero temperatures lasting several months. From late October, early November to late April, winter falls like a beautiful white blanket over Dalsvallen. It sometimes freezes to minus 30 degrees but nature is impressively beautiful in winter! Even then a visit to Dalsvallen is worthwhile. In good weather you can make wonderful trips, possibly with snowshoes or enjoy the overwhelming nature on a snowscooter and then warm up by the stove in your cabin! |
During fall, the mountains explode in a palette of colours and treasures in the form of berries and mushrooms are ripe for gathering and picking. Magic landscapes, especially at dusk.
Summers may be short, but temperatures are often a comfortable 15 degrees, with occasional peaks of up to 30 degrees, which is perfect for lakeswimming or sunbathing. |
LAGOM ÄR BÄST
Swedish lagom is all about "just enough". Because why do you need more than enough or why do you do with less when it can be enough.
This way of life makes you aware of the world around you. Sustainable living and enjoying nature are important pillars, but also, for example, cleaning up, not carrying excess ballast in your life. Actually, it can apply to anything, as long as it has the right balance. Not too much, not to little... |
